"ANGST:
RAISING AWARENESS AROUND ANXIETY"

A new film created to open up the conversation about anxiety, and provide tools, resources & hope.
(Appropriate for ages 10 and up.)

Followed by Q&A with Jon Mattleman and a MYM Young Adult Speaker

FREE & OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health challenge in the U.S., impacting 54% of females and 46% of males, with age 7 being the median age of onset, according to the World Health Organization. In other words, about half of us are currently struggling with anxiety.

The beauty of this film is that the children and young adults featured are openly talking about their experiences with anxiety and other mental health challenges.  For some of them, it's the first time they are publicly sharing their stories. Our hope is that their candidness and bravery will inspire our community to do the same.

One of the experts in ANGST, Dr. Jerry Bubrick, Sr. Director of Anxiety Disorders Center at the Child Mind Institute, sums it up: "Anxiety disorders are real, common and treatable. Getting help early is crucial in giving people the tools they need to feel better, we just need to start the conversation."

World champion and mental health advocate, Michael Phelps said, "I welcomed the opportunity to be a part of 'Angst' . . . to help people understand the impact anxiety has on our mental state and encourage people, especially kids, to ask for help."

What people have said about "Angst":

My husband and I attended the NYC premiere of "Angst" and were impressed with this documentary.  You covered a difficult topic with respect and clarity.  I hope the film gives a voice to those struggling with anxiety and opens the dialogue for community discourse. - Gina M. Pin, Ed.D., Region 9 Assistant Superintendent and Head of School: Barlow High School

"Angst" is a touching and honest look at how anxiety impacts teens and their families. The message of the film, spoken loudly and clearly by teens, parents, and experts, normalizes the struggle and offers hope with its focus on the value of connection, openness, and family support. Why is anxiety the most common of mental health issues among our youth? This film asks us to look directly at our stress-filled culture and what must do to better support our young people. - Lynn Lyons, LICSW

I've struggled with depression for most of my life... When I learned about "Angst", a movie that focuses on young people sharing their own struggles with anxiety, I was so taken by their honesty and courage. This movie's goal is to create conversation and shatter the stigma around mental illness. It's a powerful film, and it's going to do good in the world. - Dale Chihuly
