GARDENING CLASSES
with Master Garden Educator
Ashly Tamayo

This season we will take a trip back in time to learn from historic gardening and ancient farming practices to apply that wisdom in our modern lives as the legacy of stewardship to our Earth perpetuates through us. Journey with us as we honor a national hero with intentional plantings to usher in the newness of Spring, kicking off another new year ahead with gratitude and purpose.

FOR KIDS & FAMILIES

 Saturday, January 14 | 1:00-3:00
Honoring MLK Day - Planting a Garden of Hope

Inspired by the greatest Cilvil Rights activist in our nation's history, we will explore social justice through food sovereignty while planting gardens of hope. By learning the importance of growing food fairly and sustainably, we will honor the memory of Dr. King and continue his mission to make the world a better place for all. Children 7-12 may attend alone and parents are encouraged to accompany their 5 & 6 year old children.)

Saturday, February 18 | 1:00-3:00
Exploring Thomas Jeferson's Garden

As we celebrate President's Day, it’s important to remember that our leaders are regular people with interests and hobbies just like us. In addition to being one of our first presidents, a Founding Father and authoring the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson was an avid gardener. His diplomatic duties often required that he travel to other countries where he learned about new herbs, spices and foods that came back to America with him, influencing American culture and cuisine to this day.

Saturday, March 25 | 1:00-3:00
Let's Plant a Pizza Garden

Who doesn’t love pizza? We will plant tomatoes, basil, onions, garlic, spinach and peppers in our pizza garden, then follow a recipe to make farm-fresh pizza in our farm kitchen. Participants will take away seeds to plant their own pizza garden at home or school.

FOR ADULTS

Planning Your Spring Garden

There’s more to gardening than planting and harvesting! In this workshop, we will plan our gardens from the ground up so that participants will have plenty of time to prepare for a thriving spring garden!

Old Ways Are New Ways - Regenerative Gardening

With the advancement of technology and chemical engineering, the agricultural industry has grown more complex and harmful to our planet. In this workshop we will discuss the value of returning to more simple, sustainable ways of growing food and caring for the Earth.

Saturday, March 25 | 10:00 - Noon
Spring Companion Planting

Companion planting is one of the best ways to practice sustainable gardening. Whether they benefit from each other by trading nutrients in the soil, providing structural support for one another, luring pests away from a more sensitive crop or blooming nearby to attract pollinators, certain crops strategically grown together can help create a symbiotic farm ecosystem that doesn’t require the use of harmful fertilizers and pesticides.
