January Teen Science Café:
Stopping Criminals and
Climate Change with…Chemistry!

Teen Science Café participants had an opportunity to meet Dr. Megan Harries, Forensic Chemist, at the Speed Dating Café last spring. She made such an impact on the Youth Leadership Team, they selected her for a full Café event. Dr. Harries will be sharing details about a couple of different projects she’s currently involved with: using chemistry to determine how fires were started (accidentally or by arson) and how we might be able to turn recycled plastics into the next alternative fuel. We’ll get a hands-on look at a mass spectrometer - a tool chemists, forensic scientists, biologists and those exploring avenues of alternative energy. Dr. Harries is an excellent presenter and she has some fun activities planned for us to learn firsthand about the methods she uses to solve problems in her lab.
