Religious Challenges in Modern Egypt

Dr. Atef Gendy, PhD

Join us for the unique opportunity to attend a lecture by Dr. Atef Gendy, PhD, visiting scholar from Cairo, who will discuss the challenges of Christianity in the face of the Egyptian revolution. Dr. Gendy will address a number of topics, including: How does the Egyptian church function in an Islamic context? What theological themes apply to the current unrest in Egypt? What is the role of religion in modern Egypt?

Dr. Gendy has been the President of Cairo’s Evangelical Theological Seminary since 2000, and also serves as the seminary’s Professor of New Testament. He is recognized as a leader in the Synod of the Nile and the newly formed Council of Churches of Egypt, and is frequently invited to speak across the United States and Europe about the circumstances of the Evangelical Church in Egypt. We hope you will join the SFTS community in welcoming Dr. Gendy the morning of October 16.
