Ohio-Michigan Parking Associations

2018 Spring Conference and Tradeshow

May 22-23, 2018

Renaissance Toledo Downtown Hotel

The Ohio Parking Association and the Michigan Parking Association are joining forces to bring one combined two day conference and tradeshow in Toledo, OH this May!  Join your fellow OPA and MPA colleagues for two-days of networking, educational forums, discussions, a parking exhibition and a little social fun mixed in. We've invited parking professionals from the entire Midwest region. Don't miss this chance to network and learn all about the latest technology the parking world has to offer.

On Tuesday, May 22 we kick-off the conference with a golf outing at Legacy Golf Club in Michigan.  Golf Digest has given The Legacy a four-and-a-half star rating and ranked it among the Top 200 Courses to Play in the country! Open in 1997 on 207 semi-rolling acres, dotted with five lakes, including an island green, this Arthur Hills designed masterpiece is located in southeastern Lower Michigan's Monroe County.

Afterwards join us for a cocktail reception at the Renaissance Toledo Downtown Hotel to meet our exhibitors.  This is your chance to mix and mingle and get to know your fellow attendees and exihbitors.  Later that evening join us at the Toledo Aquarium for an opening reception and dinner. An event not to be missed!

On Wednessay, May 23 we have a packed agenda with educational sessions, legislative issues update, local redevelopment updates and plenty of time to view the exhibits and talk to our vendors about your operations needs.  Members of both associations can take advantage of member conference rates.

This is a Test!  The Current State of Shared Autonomous Vehicles and What They Will Mean for our Future

Overview: This presentation will provide an overview of the current Shared Autonomous Vehicle technology that is being used in the industry and a glimpse into the future of transportation. Every day another news article comes out about how autonomous vehicles promise to transform how we get around.  Google, Uber, Lyft, Tesla and many others are investing in this cutting-edge technology.  While much remains unclear regarding the development of Autonomous Vehicles, the possibilities are staggering.  The real question is how will big data, connected technology and autonomous vehicles intersect in the future?  Where will these technologies and shared autonomous vehicles merge to create a practical and effective transportation solution for everyone?  First Transit is leading the charge toward widespread use of Shared Autonomous Vehicles.  Today passengers use a mobile device for an on-demand ride, however tomorrow’s transportation will set in motion a revolution where a fleet that is responsive to actual and predicted passenger demand is possible with minimal human intervention.  As one of the nation’s leading transportation providers, First Transit will be sharing our roadmap for the future of personal movement and the industry.

Presenter: Scott Conroy, Area Vice President – Campus Transit and Shuttle, First Transit

10:40 AM – 11:30 AM Moving from Porkopolis to PARKopolis: Cincinnati Accelerates Innovation to Make Parking Easier and Improve Revenue

By addressing enforcement, metering technology, violations processing, hearings, collections, and regulatory policy, the City not only made parking easier, it improved turnover, shifted demand, and generated vital revenue. Parking revenues were earmarked to help fund multimodal projects like the Cincinnati Bell Connector, the City’s streetcar, further reducing congestion and helping solve the first- and last-mile problem.

Presenter: Daniel Fortinberry, CAPP, CPP, Parking Division Manager, City of Cincinnati

Developed as a practical, comprehensive, and real-world based curriculum, the CPP certification program is designed to assist parking managers in performing their duties in an effective and professional manner. As a Certified Parking Professional you’ll join a list of parking leaders who are committed to fostering the highest standards of ethical and professional practice in the delivery of parking programs and services.

Attend this session to discover the benefits of acquiring the CPP certification, examine the steps required to apply for the designation, and learn about the resources NPA has developed to help you prepare for the CPP exam.

2:00 PM – 2:50 PM Parking Guidance: “Dilly Dilly!” (that’s a good thing)

Overview: If you don’t know what Parking Guidance is, it won’t be long till you hear about it. Those Green, Red, and Blue lights in a garage aren’t the flag colors of The Republic of Karelia, Russian Federation (the only country with just those three colors in their flag), no, they are indicating parking space availability.  This session will talk about the details of Parking Guidance and the various ways to accomplish space counting and reporting.  The session will also integrate the importance of proper lighting design for safety, wayfinding, and general security.
