9:00 AM – 10:00 AM When Internal and External Audits Aren’t Enough: Combatting Fraud in Your Automated Parking System
Who knew internal and external audits were simply not enough? Just because an organization utilizes PARCS equipment, employ some form of automation, or offer contactless platforms, does not mean these operations can’t be compromised. Don’t be fooled – you must audit these modern marvels too! While automation can greatly reduce the risk of fraud, no system is foolproof. Each one has its own vulnerabilities. The significance of understanding the operational process in combating fraud is paramount. Historically, many work streams were manual and decentralized, which limited the ability of fraudsters to scale up fraudulent activity. However, processes have become centralized, the ability to scale up fraudulent activity has become a more compelling prize. This presentation will discuss the various tools employed to uncover fraud, how to mitigate your risks, and the strategies and tools necessary to create the most secure automated parking system possible. Harness the strengths of your automated parking resources, people, and data to understand the unique needs of your operation and protect your organization’s and your customers’ valuable information and reduce potential losses.

She will discuss a variety of emerging concepts that allow parking operations to rethink the way they view a “permit” while also reviewing the way in which BGSU is using their mobile payment solution to provide their commuters and faculty/staff with daily permit options instead of forcing them to purchase a permit. This creative solution blends with the new normal and allows drivers within any setting to utilize parking on an as-needed basis while also freeing up parking availability for areas typically limited based on strict permit sale limits. With BGSU’s successful implementation of mobile payment technology and their ability to blur the lines between permitted and hourly parking, they are building a hardware reduction plan that will put cash back into their operation.
