7/31 Creative Techniques in Child Therapy Workshop

Based on the premise of using systemic, attachment, cognitive, and narrative models of therapy with children, we will discuss creative approaches to achieving treatment goals with children.  In this two hour introduction to working with children, we will first cover how to engage children's natural energy and willingness to participate through play, metaphor and creativity.  With the use of story, games, art, questions, puppets and magic we can help children and their parents confront depression, anxiety, stealing, lying and problems common to childhood. These tools can be applied in more complex  problems such as trauma.  The class will be active, participatory, and also include video of sessions

Davida Cohen MFT, has taught and supervised interns in working with children and adolescents for over twenty years through the Family Institute of Pinole.  She is part of the Institute for the Advancement of Psychotherapy's Bay Area Center for Children, and an Adjunct Faculty member of the Wright Institute.
