Great Lakes Climate Changes and Impacts on  Water Resources

With Special Guest Speaker:

David A.R. Kristovich, PhD, Head of the Climate and Atmospheric Science Section ISWS, Prairie Research Institute, University of Illinois

Please join us for a joint breakfast meeting of the A&WMA Lake Michigan States Section and the Environmental Committee of the Union League Club on Tuesday, May 15th as David Kristovich, PhD discusses an analysis of The Fourth National Climate Assessment and recent scientific papers indicating a wide range of changes in global climate system. Dr. Kristovich’s presentation will focus on what these reports indicate about water resources in the region. He will also address how the atmospheric water (especially rain, snow) has evolved, how it is expected to change in the future and how will atmospheric variations impact the surface water resources.

Dr. Kristovich heads the Climate and Atmospheric Sciences Section of the Illinois State Water Survey, a unit of the Prairie Research Institute at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign (UIUC) and is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at UIUC. He currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Applied Meteorology and Climatology, published by the American Meteorological Society. His research focuses primarily on understanding how local variations in the earth's surface alter low-level atmospheric flow fields and, ultimately, change larger-scale weather conditions. Much of his work has been on weather and climate in the Great Lakes region. He has led several field projects including the recent Ontario Winter Lake-effect Systems (OWLeS) experiment, which included scientists and students from more than a dozen universities and research organizations.
