We live in a world where quick responding is considered an essential skill; however, some children feel left behind.  Difficulties with processing speed cut across disorders such as learning disabilities and ADHD.  Dr. Braaten will provide the audience with both an overview of processing speed and its relationship to today's quick-paced lifestyles, classroom environments, and home lives.  The program will also review the biology of processing speed, how it impacts performance in the classroom and social relationships, and strategies parents can use at home to support a child with slow processing speed.

Ellen B. Braaten, Ph.D., is a renowned psychologist, researcher, television contributor and author who works in the field of pediatric neuropsychological and psychological assessment, particularly in the areas of assessing learning disabilities and attentional disorders.  Dr. Braaten is director of the Learning and Emotional Assessment Program (LEAP), as well as associate director of The Clay Center for Young Minds, both at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.  Her career spans over 30 years, with a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Colorado State University, a post-doctoral fellowship in Child/Adult Psychology at Massachusetss General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from the University of Colorado, Denver.
