Beyond Lithium Ion XII

The twelfth symposium on Energy Storage Beyond Lithium Ion will be hosted by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. This meeting is one in a successive series of symposiums organized by a consortium of U.S. national laboratories, NASA, and IBM Research to bring together scientists and engineers focused on transformational advances in scalable energy storage.

Significant advances in electrical energy storage could revolutionize the energy landscape, but further breakthroughs in scalable energy storage—beyond current state-of-the-art lithium-ion batteries—are needed.

This is a unique forum focused on the future of energy storage technologies for transportation and grid applications. The main themes of the symposium are:

1. Reviewing groundbreaking technical progress
2. Exploring future directions
3. Understanding critical challenges that are impeding progress.

At the symposium, leading researchers and manufacturers will discuss critically necessary materials, diagnostics, scaling, and manufacturing issues associated with better performing energy storage devices. Through this open-format discussion, organizers aim to accelerate innovation, reduce costs, and improve the safety of advanced electrochemical energy storage concepts and systems beyond lithium ion.
