The Extension Forestry Program at UConn announces a year-long series of workshops for woodland owners and nature lovers. Welcome to Workshop #3: How to identify bark.
Identifying native tree bark can be a challenge, especially when the bark on some tree species changes structure as the tree ages. Most bark types fall into six general categories: smooth, plates and scales and flakes, ridges and furrows and fissures, peeling, horizontal lines, and shredding. Come join us as we talk about the different types, look at actual examples, and then head outside for a walk in the woods on a hunt for the six bark types.
Wear comfortable clothing, and sturdy shoes. Please don't forget tick protection! Light refreshments will be provided.
