Electronic Health Records (EHR) are revolutionizing the way doctors are able to care for patients - not only have they digitized detailed patient information for easy access, but they allow for easy and more efficient ways to track patient data over time.

Lud Johnson,  CIO at Middlesex Hospital, will examine the current use of EHR and other IT applications for providers and  incentives for increased use.  Edward M. Kennedy, Jr., President of the Marwood Group, will discuss recent transactions in which his company served as advisor.   Both panelists will discuss trends in the industry and where it is going in the next five years.

Paul E. Knag, Chair, Health Law Group, Murtha Cullina LLP, Attorneys at Law and Chair, Health Law Section of the Connecticut Bar Association, practices in the areas of Complex Litigation and Health Care.  A cum laude graduate of Harvard Law School, he has written and lectured extensively on a variety of topics including antitrust, health care reimbursement, insurance, arbitration and various other topics.  He is the original author of a treatise on HIPAA.  He has litigated in a variety of state and federal courts including the United States Supreme Court.  He has also handled a wide variety of health care transactional and regulatory issues on behalf of providers including compliance, reimbursement, governance, antitrust, joint ventures, physician contracting and a wide array of other health care issues.  He is listed in Best Lawyers and Who's Who.  He was formerly Chair of the Connecticut Health Lawyers Association.

David A. Menard, Partner, Murtha Cullina LLP, Attorneys at Law, represents both private and public companies. He practices in the areas of private equity and venture capital investments, mergers and acquisitions, licensing and contracts, and securities law. In the private equity and venture capital area, Mr. Menard has represented both companies and investors in debt and equity offerings, and has provided both pre and post-investment general corporate law guidance to companies in various industries, including high tech, software, bio-science, manufacturing, audio and video, retail, steel and solar energy. In addition to equity financings, Mr. Menard advises clients on a variety of business matters throughout their life cycle, including formation, supply and sales channel contracts (such as U.S. and foreign manufacturing, distribution and sales arrangements, software and technology licensing, trademarks and branding, and equity compensation arrangements). He is currently on the CVG Board of Directors.

Panelists

Daniel J. Barchi, SVP and CIO, Yale New Haven Health System, Yale School of Medicine. Daniel’s background includes six years as an officer in the US Navy.  In 2012, he guided Yale New Haven Health System and Yale School of Medicine through a large-scale infrastructure project. Daniel helped roll out EpicCare, an electronic medical records system that aimed to align the Health System and School of Medicine, unify IT operations across the system, facilitate better data management, and reduce costs.

Ludwig “Lud” Johnson, Vice President, Information Services, Middlesex Hospital has 35 years of Information Technology, Financial Management and Management Engineering experience. He is also the founder of Company 1 Consulting (1984), a firm specializing in improving health care through the use of Information Technology. This unique experience has given him a broad insight to the industry and has increased the effectiveness of solutions for Middlesex. Mr. Johnson holds an undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Northeastern University and Master of Science in Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He is on the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Health Information Exchange.

Edward "Ted" M. Kennedy, Jr., is an attorney and a co-founder and the president of the Marwood Group.  Founded in 2000, the Marwood Group is a healthcare-focused strategic advisory and financial services firm headquartered in New York City.
