an Arts in Inclusive Learning workshop

Presented by the Arts Alliance of Northern New Hampshire & VSA New Hampshire
as part of their Arts in Inclusive Learning collaboration, under a contract with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts
Fee: $30, with discounts for Arts Alliance members (both schools & individuals) and students. There is no charge for educators from SAU #84. Partial scholarships are available if needed. Professional development credit is offered. Please bring a lunch.

An exploration of the rich repertoire of early-childhood music, rhymes, counting-out chants, finger plays and traditional circle and playground games. Participants will learn by doing and will take back to their children lots of new ways to introduce rhythm and music into activities.
The links between music and language, self-expression and literacy skills will be explored; singing games are an effective tool for social learning and offer children ways to use these traditional rhymes and games on their own, at school and at home, with their friends and families. The workshop will also introduce ways to make simple rhythm instruments that can be used in a variety of creative activities.
Attention will be paid to strategies for reaching learners of all abilities.

Our Presenter:
Deborah Stuart is a musician and folklorist who has worked for over 40 years with children in classrooms and as a teaching consultant nationally and internationally. She has done extensive training for educators and was a core faculty member for the VSA Arts Institute: Professional Development in Art, Education and Disability. She has led national webinars and programs offered by the Department of VSA and Accessibility at the Kennedy Center, and she is the recipient of the national VSA Ginny Miller Award for Mentorship.
