Southern Roots: The Edible Garden in the Classroom

Want to get students excited about learning more about the environment and their connections to it? Join us for a first-hand look at a working farm as we explore its importance to our everyday lives.

The Farm School at Camp McDowell plays host to this 3-day excursion focused on food, sustainability, and the surrounding ecosystem. Participants will learn about edible gardens and methods for creating them in their own schools.

The Farm to Table activity will have educators harvesting and preparing their own meals from local seasonal foods in the McDowell Teaching Kitchen. Participants will learn about composting and how to build their own composting bins. We will also swim in Clear Creek and paddle boat in McDowell’s lake!

Come live, learn, and laugh on the farm with us.
