Donald MacDonald, FAIA

An internationally recognized architect, Donald MacDonald’s bridge design work is evident in such Bay Area landmarks as the Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge Eastern Span- as well as outside of his home locale and in existence all over the nation.  

Owner/Principal of MacDonald Architects for over 40 years, the firm’s constant project load has led to such projects as: South Carolina’s Cooper River Bridge - North America’s largest cable-stayed bridge; Napa County’s 3rd Street Bridge, Maxwell Replacement Bridge, and the I-80 Berkeley Pedestrian Bicycle Overpass. 

Mr. MacDonald is the author of several books discussing the aesthetics of bridges: The Golden Gate Bridge: History and Design of an Icon, Bay Bridge: History and Design of a New Icon, and Tilikum Crossing: Bridge of the People, Portland's Bridges, and a New Icon.
