Iowans for Animal Welfare Conference

People from all over Iowa involved in animal protection will be gathering at the  7th annual Iowa Federation of Humane Societies (IFHS) Iowans for Animal Welfare conference on September 20 and 21 in Des Moines. Please join us!

The conference begins the afternoon of Sunday, September 20 with a general session followed by presentations on the Pets for Life program, which helps provide spay/neuter procedures, vaccinations, supplies, and more for pet owners struggling to provide for their pets, and a session on how a single person can have a huge positive impact for animals in their local community. Following the afternoon session, join us for a networking social to meet friends and make new connections, followed by our keynote speaker Dr. Roger Haston, Executive Director of Animal Assistance Foundation, of Longmont, CO.  Dr. Haston will explore the impact of live release rate and intake policies through modeling and data characterization to show the impact of various live release rate, euthanasia, and intake policies on shelter operations.

The conference continues Monday with a series of presentations of interest to a range of people involved in animal welfare work. The morning begins with a discussion of Iowa's animal cruelty laws and how best to improve them to better protect Iowa's animals.

Monday also features two tracks of presentations on a range of topics designed to have something of interest for everyone.  The presentations start with a session on how to organize a dog walk fundraiser event for your shelter or rescue, sessions on common veterinary issues shelters are confronted with for both dogs and cats, cat trap/neuter/return (TNR) programs, large-scale off-site adoption events, and creative cat enrichment programs to help more cats.

A downloadable version of the conference agenda is available here.

Registration is only $40 through August 23, $50 after August 23.  IFHS membership includes 50% off a conference registration for individual members, organizational members receive 50% off two registrations.  We also offer a discounted student registration.
