Strengthen your knowledge of restorative justice
(RJ) Basics or learn for the first time, to support your entrance into or further exploration of the field and its possibilities.
Class will be led by Molly R. Leach and Dr. Sandra Pavelka. Molly is a seasoned advocate and practitioner who has worked within non-profit advocacy and services over the past two decades, specific to restorative justice, social healing, and peacebuilding. Areas covered will include history, principles, practices, sample program overviews and statistical evidence of the efficacy of RJ. -->Ms. Leach's Bio
Dr. Pavelka has served the restorative justice field for over two decades, is a Professor at Florida Gulf Coast University, an active author of publications and essays on RJ, and serves as adviser to many local and national projects, including on the Advisory Council to the National Association for Community and Restorative Justice (NACRJ). She specializes in up-to-the-moment analysis of policy and practices and is especially passionate about keeping the field as aligned as possible to its values during this significant period of expanision we currently observe
in the US. She will join us to present during our second session on Community Engagement and Police Relations, as well as to report on the growth of the overall RJ movement. -->Dr. Pavelka's Website
This class is for Professionals, Community Advocates, Individuals interested in learning more in order to become more involved, or create, their own community programs. It's also for those wishing to receive an up-to-the-moment report on the climate of Restorative Justice in the US.
This is not a facilitation skills training, or a how-to on implementation, but it will provide you great insights into program successes, why recidivism is so low in RJ, and how the US is fast-adopting a restorative lens in cross-spectrum human services areas.
