The Master Gardener Foundation of King County invites you to an online evening of entertainment and education with local gardening celebrities Dan Hinkley and Nita-Jo Rountree, September 11 at 5:30PM. Join us for this cocktail hour fundraising event and enjoy the lively and light-hearted exchanges by Dan and Nita-Jo as they share their favorite plants and savor their shared histories as plant lovers and avid gardeners.
Dan Hinkley is an American plantsman, author, lecturer, plant collector and nurseryman. He is best known for establishing Heronswood Botanical Garden in Kingston, WA, currently Director of the garden, and Windcliff, his personal garden in Indianola, WA.
Nita-Jo Rountree is a speaker, educator, and landscape designer. She is a lifetime Georgia Master Gardener, resident of the Pacific Northwest, and currently serves on the board of directors of the Bellevue Botanical Garden Society.
This event is key to helping the Foundation raise money for the Master Gardener Program in King County. The Foundation experienced a shortfall this year when the pandemic-related concerns caused the cancellation of our onsite plant sales, traditionally a primary source of funds. Your participation and donation will help us continue to support our home gardeners in new ways.
To make this event even more special and fun for all, several sponsors are providing select door prizes for some lucky attendees. Thank you to these sponsors for their generosity: Bellevue Botanical Garden, Bellevue Botanical Garden Society, City Peoples Mercantile on Sand Point Way, Dunn Gardens, Eastside Fuchsia Society, Fran's Chocolates, McLendon Hardware, Wells Medina Nursery in Bellevue, Woodland Park Zoo, and authors Nita-Jo Rountree, Jodi Helmer and MG Pat Roome. Jodi will be sharing a couple of drink recipes from her book with registrants.
Master Gardener volunteers continue to share their wealth of gardening knowledge and the resources of WSU and other university sites, giving science-based information to help gardeners learn how to create sustainable and ecologically robust areas at their homes and nearby community gardens. They have moved online in a big way in 2020 with live video plant clinics where once they were only available face-to-face. They continue to be available by email. Find details at Ask-a-Master-Gardener.
