MEETING DESCRIPTION
This WINTER BOTANY workshop consists of a thorough review ofbotanical morphology during the winter, training in the use of a dicho-tomous key, hands-on experience in the classroom and in the field with alarge inventory of twigs from all the major botanical families found in theNortheast, and professional shortcuts to help students identify an unknownplant in winter.The morning classroom will be held at the SPNHF Conservation Centerconference room. The afternoon field trip covers a wide range ofelevations and habitats along the Merrimack River floodplain at theConservation Center that feature a wide variety of flora in a naturalenvironment. Workshop will include morning refreshments and lunch.Students should dress for a winter field trip in dry to moist environments.
PRESENTER
Bill Kuriger, Ph.D., CWS, is an Environmental Scientist with W. E. KurigerAssociates and is a former President of NHANRS. He has taught winter botanyworkshops since 1996 for a number of organizations. Dr. Kuriger’s winterbotany workshops are unique in providing a wealth of specimens for students toexamine, key and take home.
