About Compassionate Houston

Compassionate Houston is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to fostering the compassionate culture of Houston through awareness, education, and service. Founded in 2011, based on the principles of the Charter for Compassion, Compassionate HTX brings together a wide network of leaders, teachers, organizations, and faith communities with the shared goal of creating a more compassionate city.

What Makes Us Houston Strong?

Hurricane Harvey brought historic challenges to Houston. Compassionate responses from so many revealed our city’s courage, unwavering kindness, and prevailing strength. How can we continue to rise together as a deeply compassionate city, both for those still impacted by Harvey and beyond?

Our Speaker: Dr. Jill Carroll, PhD

Jill Carroll, PhD is a scholar, writer, and expert on World Religions and public life. For many years she has taught and provided religious diversity and global skills training for corporations and non-profits. She has published numerous books and articles on world religions, interfaith relations, and public life. As former executive director of Rice University’s Boniuk Institute for Religious Tolerance and visionary founder of the Amazing Faith Dinner Dialogues, she knows Houston well.

Experience her compelling insights into how our city’s diversity of faith perspectives and backgrounds led Houstonians and others to rise together and respond with universal compassion in Harvey’s wake. How do we meet the challenge of sustaining this overt commitment and respect for our common humanity; appreciating, leveraging, and strengthening interdependence in our community as we move forward?

Let's keep the compassion flowing and keep Houston Strong.
