Please join us for the 2014 EDU Conference on Saturday, November 22, at Worcester State University. We'll spend the day exploring the steps we can take to build a movement to reclaim the promise of public education by organizing our unions, empowering our communities, and growing coalitions.

In addition to informative and action-oriented workshops, the conference will feature a morning plenary session with LOIS WEINER and a closing planel discussion with BARBARA MADELONI, GWEN DAVIS and BOB PETERSON.

Morning workshops will explore a variety of issues facing public education, examining the impacts on students, teachers and communitites.  You will be able to attend two of these 1-hour workshops:

  • "Ed reform" goes to Community College
  • ELL, ReTELL and Bilingual Education
  • The School-to-Prison Pipeline
  • P-16 Education: Public Good or Profitable Commodity?
  • Adjunct Faculty and the Casualization of Academic Work
  • Developing your Union's Vision with Lois Weiner

Afternoon workshops are designed to expose you to different organizing approaches and to leave you armed with tools, tactics, and plans to take back to your union. You will be able to attend one of these 2-hour sessions:

• • "The Schools our Children Deserve" with Bob Peterson
  • Organizing and Mobilizing in your Local Union
  • Running for Union Office
  • Organizing Adjunct Faculty
  • Building Coalitions with Immigrant Communities
  • Opting Out of Standardized Testing

The suggested conference registration fee is: $10 for those new to EDU, $20 to cover the cost of food, $40 to cover the full costs of the conference, or whatever you can afford!
