Deering brings more than 35 years of experience as a health care leader to this new role she assumed on January 1, 2014. Since 2006, she has served as Sherman's chief operating officer. Under her leadership, the hospital has achieved and maintained top decile (index performance) results in patient, physician and associate satisfaction, and health outcomes. During her tenure, Sherman also achieved the ILPEX Silver Award for Performance Excellence and Magnet designation, among numerous other national awards and accolades.
Prior to her work at Sherman, Deering served as the vice president of patient services, chief nursing officer and chief clinical officer at Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva, Illinois. She also served as executive director of patient services at St. Joseph's Hospital in Elgin, Illinois.
Deering earned her Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees in nursing from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.
She is a member of the American College of Health Executives and the American Organization of Executive Nurses. Deering also regularly travels the country as a professional speaker and coach for the Studer Group serving to help other health care organizations create cultures of accountability and top performance.
