Bringing Emotions to the Path of Awakening
A Weekend Program
with Senior Tergar Instructor Tim Olmsted
Saturday & Sunday, Feb. 11-12 from 9am - 5pm
Hosted by Tergar Medford Practice Group
at the Medford Library
While our emotions often delight and invigorate us, when examined we find them to be fleeting and unreliable. On a subtle level, the emotions often obscure the abiding peaceful awareness that lies at the very heart of each of us. During this weekend retreat with Tergar instructor Tim Olmsted, we’ll discover how to use the energy and richness of our emotional life as the foundation for the journey to awakening. We’ll learn to bring emotions to the entire arc of the path – as the basis for inner peace and equanimity, as a source of radiant compassion, and finally, as brilliant wisdom.
This weekend program is open to anyone, experienced meditators and those who are just starting out. For those new to meditation, we ask that prior to this workshop you watch Mingyur Rinpoche's four-part video series (available for free online), Introduction to Meditation.
About the Tergar Instructor
Tim Olmsted has been a student of meditation for the past 35 years. For twelve of those years, Tim lived in Nepal working as a psychotherapist serving the international community. There he studied with many of the greatest Buddhist teachers of our time, including Mingyur Rinpoche's late father, Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche. After returning to the United States, he served for three years as the director of Gampo Abbey, the largest residential Buddhist monastery in North America. In 2003, Tim founded the Yongey Foundation to support and promote Mingyur Rinpoche's activities in the West. Tim now travels internationally presenting Mingyur Rinpoche's teachings. He lives in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, where he leads an active community, and is active in interfaith dialogue. He is currently the President of the Pema Chödrön Foundation.
