The Turf Environment and its Relation to Disease

3/12/2021 - 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm EST

Speaker: Richard Buckley, Rutgers University

Plant (turf) diseases are a result of a complex relationship between a susceptible plant, a disease-causing agent, and a set of favorable environmental conditions. This relationship is known as the disease triangle. In turfgrass, the things we do to make a field of grass into a lawn or playing surface have a profound impact on the disease triangle. Simple changes in cultural practices can increase the severity of the disease or solve the problem outright. In this 90-minute lecture, we will discuss the impact of our cultural practices—seed selection, fertilization, mowing, irrigation, and cultivation—on turfgrass diseases using examples of several common problems found in New Jersey landscape turf.

3/15/2021 - 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm EST

Speaker: Demi Fortuna, Atlantic Water Gardens

Simple to install water features to your projects can add considerable value to your projects while adding significant profits to your bottom line. Waterscaping is in high demand these days and installation can be as easy as prepackaged pondless waterfalls to pond kits that include everything but the fish to more elaborate custom fountains and ponds.

Demi will give us an introduction to the types of Water Features that are fastest to install, easiest to maintain and most profitable. We’ll look at creating and sizing above-ground and in-ground reservoirs, selecting and hiding pumps and plumbing, making a Water Feature out of literally ANYTHING, with a live demonstration, and the most fool-proof ways to maintain your customer’s Water Feature.
