US Sailing Club Judge Seminar

Join us for US Sailing's Club Judge Seminar instruced by Eric Johnson, Judge and Umpire of events local to international. The $75 entry fee includes all seminar materials, conteniental breakfast, lunch, and snacks throughout the day.

The US Sailing Club Judge Seminar is a one-day educational course intended to provide sailors and racers an opportunity to obtain practical knowledge and skills required to serve on a Protest Committee at their local sailing club or local regatta venue.

The Club Judge Seminar is NOT intended to serve as a rules seminar or symposium.

Rather, a person would attend the seminar with a goal to:

(1) become a new judge for their local club and able to serve on a protest committee;

(2) for existing members of a protest (or race) committee, sharpen their judging and procedural skills; and

(3) lay the groundwork to (potentially) pursue their US Sailing judging certification.

What to Bring: You will need your own copy of The Racing Rules of Sailing.

Study Materials: Please view the Study Materials for the Club Judge Seminar, as well as Dave Perry’s Significant RRS Changes 2017-2020, before attending the seminar. Additional information about the Club Judge Seminar can found in the Judges area of the US Sailing website.

The Club Judge certification test, which is available online at the conclusion of the seminar, is optional. However, in order to be certified as a US Sailing Club Judge you must attend a complete seminar and pass the test, as well as own a copy of The Judges Manual and meet the program’s other criteria.
