Mental health first aid (MHFA) is the help provided to a person developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis. The first aid is given until appropriate professional treatment is received or until the crisis is resolved.

Course Description

MHFA Canada is a 12-hour course that trains you to recognize the signs and
symptoms of the following mental health disorders: •Substance misuse and substance-related disorders •Mood-related disorders, including depression and bipolar •Anxiety and trauma-related disorders, including panic attacks and post-traumatic
stress disorder •Psychotic disorders, including schizophrenia The course also trains you on MHFA Canada for the following situations that
could occur in your organization: •Overdosing, signs and symptoms, as well as what to do until a healthcare
professional arrives •Assisting someone who is at a risk of suicide •Acute stress reactions including panic attacks and how you can assist •Psychotic episodes and what you need to know In addition: •Reduce the stigma associated with mental health in your workplace, which
stops many people from seeking the help they need •Potentially save the life of a loved one, co-worker, or client/customer •Obtain certification from the Mental Health Commission of Canada that adds
to your professional development •Reduce the potential costs to your organization, which are associated with
poor mental health, such as absenteeism and low productivity. •Create a culture of support and awareness
