Self-advocates, along with their chosen allies and supporters, will gather May 3 - 5 for a weekend of learning and discovery at Callaway Gardens' Mountain Creek Inn in Pine Mountain, Georgia. Together, we will explore how to expand and strengthen Georgia’s self-advocacy movement. There will be opportunities for advocates to connect with and learn from each other.

Workshop sessions will be designed and delivered by self-advocates for self-advocates. Topics will include: Supported Decision Making, Graphic Facilitation, Using Social Media, Telling Your Story, and more!

The retreat costs $50 per person.

Registration will close April 1, 2019.

Self-advocates who bring an ally, supporter, or family member will need to pay an additional $50 as each person needs to register separately and pay $50.  Allies, supporters, professionals or family members should only attend to support a self-advocate who is attending. The sleeping rooms at the Mountain Creek Inn can accommodate up to four guests. You need to list your hotel roommate in your registration form. If you plan to stay alone in the hotel, please tell us that in the registration form.

Registration includes:

  • Hotel room with another guest (you'll list your hotel roommate in registration form)
  • Five meals (Dinner Friday & Saturday, Breakfast Saturday & Sunday, Lunch Saturday)
  • Conference bag with retreat materials
  • Workshops and plenary sessions led by well-known and emerging self-advocates and supporters
  • Friday evening networking by the fire
  • Saturday evening festivities
  • Free admission to the Gardens (www.callawaygardens.com/the-gardens/)

The Uniting for Change retreat is for self-advocates and is supported through the Expanding Self-Advocacy Grant from the Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities. We are also seeking funding from other agencies in Georgia that support self-advocacy in order to keep registration costs affordable for self-advocates to attend.

There is an option to donate more than the $50 registration fee in the registration form if you are willing and able which helps fund the total costs of the retreat.
