Sesquicentennial Celebration - Public Activities 

The big weekend of celebrating our Sesquicentennial is nearing and there are a ton of great activities being planned that all are welcome to attend.  To aid organizers in accommodating everyone, we are asking that folks take the time to let us know which events they will most likely be attending.  Descriptions of the public activities are listed below.  Please click on the Sign-up Now! button to let us know your intentions.  It would be greatly appreciated! 

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 2012

9:00 am  OPENING CEREMONIES - The day will begin with Opening Ceremonies in Tenney Theater, with oli, prayers and music.  We are expecting several honored guess, including the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, the Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori; the Bishop of Taiwan; the Bishop of Aotearoa New Zealand; as well as past Bishops of the Diocese of Hawai'i: The Rt. Rev. Donald P. Hart and the Rt. Rev. Richard Chang.

10:30 am DR. JENNY TE PAA, Tenney Theater - Second speaker and also the Convention Chaplain is Dr. Jenny Te Paa, Principal of Te Rau Kahikatea at St. John's College in Auckland, New Zealand. Along with many other 'firsts' in New Zealand, Jenny was the first lay, indigenous woman ever to be appointed as head of an Anglican Theological College. She has a lifelong commitment to the Anglican faith, extensive service to parishes and vestries, is a serving member of the General Synod since 1994, and continues as an academic and teacher.

11:15 am - O'AHU PREMIERE: Video Documentary, Grace and Beauty: 150 Years of the Episcopal Church in Hawai'i, in Tenney Theater

12:00 pm - MINISTRY FAIR - (Until 3:00 pm) In Queen Emma Park (directly behind the Cathedral)  This event is open to the public and will be held under a 10' x 140' tented area.  Featured will be many of the non-profit outreach agencies that our churches work with including IHS, Family Promise and FACE, plus outreach ministries from our churches, schools, camp and independent programs.

BOXED LUNCH AVAILABLE with advanced purchase, and can be picked up at the food booth in the Ministry Fair. $10 includes a turkey, bacon, avocado wrap with chips, brownie and choice of bottled water or soda.

1:30 pm ENCORE SHOWING of video documentary Grace and Beauty, Tenney Theater

2:15 pm PERFORMANCE of one-act play Vespers at Hnaiakamlama, Tenney Theater

3:00 pm REQUIEM MASS in the Cathedral of St. Andrew - It will be based on Gabriel Faure's Requiem in D Minor. The Mass will honor those who have gone before us in these past 150 years, beginning with the Sovereigns and concluding with our 2012 Necrology. The Celebrant will be Bishop Fitzpatrick with Bishops Chang and Hart Concelebrating. The preacher will be Rev. David Kennedy.

12:00 pm  LUNCH WITH PRESIDING BISHOP  There is a possibility that a few seats may be available at the fundraising luncheon at the Pacific Club. The cost for the luncheon is $150.00 (representing 150 years) and proceeds will go to three beneficiaries: The Queen Emma Clinics, The St. Andrew's Priory Scholarship Fund and Waiolahui'ia: the local Diocesan Formation Program for the Priesthood. These three causes are based on King Kamehameha IV and Queen Emma's concerns for the body, mind and spirit of their people.  If you are interested in possibly receiving an invitation to attend, be sure to respond in the Sign-up section to be added to the waiting list.

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 11, 2012

9:00 am FESTIVE EUCHARIST - The weekend's Sesquicentennial Celebration will conclude with a Festive Eucharist in the Cathedral of St. Andrew beginning at 9:00 am.  The Presiding Bishop, the Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori, will celebrate and preach.  The program will also include special music and a planned procession of the church banners, similar to the one held at Bishop Fitzpatrick's ordination.  Since most of the diocesan clergy will be in attendance, we will be making the worship service available to the entire Diocesan-wide church community through live-streaming internet video and encourage all congregations to broadcast the service in their churches so that we may worship together.
