"Filthy Weather applied to Buzz Connect’s ‘Dragon’s Den’ to have our weaknesses highlighted before we officially launch our new rain skirt company in October.
Naturally we were nervous about what we were letting ourselves in for; humiliation, annihilation and so on, but these had to be taken on the chin if we wanted Filthy Weather to be a success.
Arriving at the meeting point at Newbury’s Parkway shopping area we were warmly greeted with drinks and sandwiches .
When it became our turn to make a presentation in front of the panel, we simply threw ourselves into it. We had nothing to lose and trusted we would learn something from the experience. We know we are passionate about our product; we’ve not needed to compromise in our approach to initiate a British design and manufacture collection of quality rain skirts. At that moment we were Queens of our castle knowing our main competition is a waterproof trouser. It is likely others follow our rain skirt trend, but, dear reader, know where you saw this easy and comfortable to wear product first!
Having test driven skirts for 5 years we decided to create a business from it in June 2015. When we introduced our business concept to the BuzzConnect #BigPitch our knowledge and potential for Filthy Weather must have shone through for the business ambassadors totted up their points at the end of the day and we were astonished and delighted to have won. And even more thrilled when we really looked at the very long list of fabulous prizes!
This kind of support has bolstered us so much, given us confidence and put in place facilities for us to consider ourselves far more professional. It is one thing to have an idea and materialise it, but another to make it work. The support that BuzzConnect and the Ambassadors with their generous prizes have given to this budding business is transforming us."
