Montana continues to face a physician workforce shortage. Shortages now are felt across all health care professionals. During this session, Roundtable participants will share their perspectives are how to solve the physician workforce shortage – from expanding the scope of practice of pharmacists to the use of telehealth. 2:45 – 3:30 p.m.: Growing the Physician Workforce Building the physician workforce is a priority and it takes time. During this session, Roundtable participants will share their perspectives on medical education and graduate medical education and what physicians can do to grow the workforce and retain who we have. 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.: Medical Services: The Playbook for Frontier Health Care Hear from physician leaders across Montana on the topics of the health care workforce and growing the physician workforce and how the solutions proposed by earlier panels would impact the delivery of medical care in Montana. 9:00 – 9:45 a.m.: 2022 Emerging Issues: Legislating Access to Reproductive Health Services
2022 emerging issues include scope battles, overdose rates, behavioral health needs, and women’s health. The MMA has focused on expanding access to reproductive care since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey. This session will be a discussion among Roundtable leaders about the legal and patient care issues we are facing, legislation being considered, and strategy moving forward. Roundtable leaders:
9:45 – 10:15 a.m.: Telehealth: Demonstrating High-Quality Care The pandemic moved telehealth adoption by physician practices, and action is needed to pass measures to expand coverage, payment, and equitable access to telehealth. During this session, we will hear from national Telehealth Initiative participants and discuss key policy drivers to ensure sustained access to high-quality telehealth post-pandemic. 10:15 – 10:30 a.m.: Networking break
10:30 – 11:45 a.m.: Fighting Burnout It’s time to support physicians. This means system changes and addressing prior authorization and other administrative demands. During this session, we will first hear from the American Medical Association on the Recovery Plan and then have a reaction panel to discuss remarks and strategies to address declines in physician wellbeing.
