BUDGET ADVOCACY DAY - FEBRUARY 5, 2019

For the first time in 30 years, the Legislature will be debating changes to the way funding flows to domestic violence primary purpose providers around the state. While we haven’t seen any proposals yet, we understand the Governor will be announcing his plans with his Executive Budget in approx. two weeks.

It’s critical that we hit the ground running during this year’s budget season to advocate for what we know is needed to resolve the challenges we face. We must ensure that legislators realize the value of our work, and urge that they fund it accordingly.

NYSCADV’s Budget Advocacy Day presents the perfect opportunity to meet with local legislators and communicate our needs and concerns. If you are unable to join us in Albany, we will also be hosting a virtual advocacy day* where you can call, fax, and email your legislators and Governor Cuomo to let them know about the specific needs of domestic violence organizations and the survivors they serve around the state. We encourage survivors to contact their elected officials to let them know how important these issues are. 

We will be sending out detailed information about Budget Advocacy Day after the Governor’s Executive Budget is released. This will include sample call dialogues, emails, letters and social media posts. NYSCADV will be scheduling in person meetings with key legislators and officials within the Executive Chamber that same day. 

Let's send the Legislature and Governor's office a resounding message from every domestic violence program in New York State - that they must make the budget count for survivors of domestic violence!

Finally, mark your calendars for NYSCADV’s Legislative Action Day, which will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, in Albany. More details to follow.

NYSCADV will host an informational webinar on Wednesday, January 30th from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM that will provide lobbying tips and describe the legislation to help you prepare for your legislative visits.
