Although this year’s event has shifted to an online delivery format, there will still be an opportunity for in-depth learning for agronomists, producers, industry and retail to improve their crop scouting skills and further their agronomic knowledge. Crop Diagnostic Week will have various online learning opportunities spread out over four days from July 27 to 30, 2020.
The Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture is proud to partner with the Southeast Research Farm (SERF) in Redvers to deliver this exciting event. You can read more about the great work that SERF does at southeastresearchfarm.org. SERF is also part of the Agri-ARM network – eight producer-directed applied research and demonstration organizations located across the province.

Monday, July 27 at 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Weed ID: Work on improving your weed identification skills! Experts will be available to help you improve your identification of commonly found and misidentified broadleaf and grassy weeds in the field. Learn more about how plants share family characteristics that can help you more quickly identify unknown plants in the field.
Pesticide Mixing Order Demonstration: Doug Fehr will demonstrate and discuss proper pesticide mixing. He will cover the importance of proper mixing order, adjuvants for “emergency” fixing of mixing issues, poor water sources and how to manage them for pesticide use, adjuvants and much more.
Tank Cleanout Demonstration: Improperly cleaned sprayer tanks can leave behind herbicide residue that can be harmful to your crops. Join us for an online tour with Provincial Weeds Specialist Clark Brenzil to see effects on canola plots sprayed with different residue rates of a Group 2 herbicide.

Soil Profiles, Nutrient Deficiencies and Phosphorous Fertility: Curious about soils? Join us to hear from three different speakers on all things soils. We will hear from two soils experts from the University of Saskatchewan; Angela Bedard-Haughn on what you can learn from soil profiles and Jeff Schoenau on how to diagnose nutrient deficiencies. Following this Gary Kruger (Government of Saskatchewan) will demonstrate safe rates of seed placed phosphorus fertilization and discuss the effect of exceeding safe seed placed rates relative to side banding for pea and canola.
Wednesday, July 29 at 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
To spray or not to spray?: The first step is to identify the problem. Learn how to identify disease in pulses and cereals and what diagnostic tests are available. Spray now or spray later? Learn when you need to spray before you see symptoms, when to spray when you do see symptoms and when not to spray at all.
Intercropping: Various outside-the-box crops will be showcased in this session on intercrops. Join Bill May, Terry Kowalchuk and Lana Shaw as they focus on crops that can be easily grown in the province but often are not. Intercrop selections will include forage corn and soybeans, hybrid brown mustard, maple and marrow fat peas, tillage radish, buckwheat, spelt, Kamut, red proso millet, teff, Japanese and golden German millet and more.

Who let the bugs out? How do experts classify insects? How do you know which grasshopper is a pest and which isn't? Join Tyler Wist, Meghan Vankosky, James Tansey and Kaeley Kindrachuk as they explain what to look for when classifying insect pests and beneficials found in Saskatchewan.
Pre-Harvest Appraisal Demo: Learn how to perform a pre-harvest yield appraisal. Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation’s experts will provide an in-depth opportunity to learn how yield appraisals are done and how you can use this process on your own farm.
