Optics is a hidden gem of a technology. Many really important technologies are enabled by optics: the Internet, smart phones, DNA sequencers, Drug Discovery, and A LOT more!!
This FREE two-day session covers optics applicable for Middle or High School Science courses. Content will be covered in the context of the Next Generation Science Standards. The session will use Photonics Explorer kits created by the EYEST Educational Initiative out of Brussels, and funded by Hamamatsu Photonics.
Each teacher will leave with a kit that would serve a class of ~20 students.
Attendance limited to first 10 teachers who register.
Topics covered will be Basic Lenses (ray optics) with application to devices such as telescopes and microscopes, as well as LED light sources/signals, Color, and Eye Vision.

Trainer Information:
Steve O’Brien is an Associate Professor for the Technological Studies Department at TCNJ and is the Director for the Center for Excellence in STEM Education. He received a Masters and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University, and is experienced in opto-electronic devices, having specialized in semiconductor lasers. Dr. O’Brien is also the Coordinator of TCNJ’s integrated-STEM Ed. Masters in Education Program.
