About the Project
Please join us for the world premiere of "Heart of the Civil War," an exciting Maryland Public Television documentary on September 4, 2012. Be among the first to view the film at this special screening. Many who are featured in this production will also be in the audience to view it for the first time.

The film will debut on the actual 150th anniversary of General Robert E. Lee and his Confederate Army invading the North for the first time.  On September 4, 1862, Lee crossed the Potomac River and headed towards Frederick.

The film illuminates the border state experiences of mid-Maryland throughout the Civil War. It went into production in 2011 in anticipation of the anniversary of Lee's 1862 Maryland Campaign which culminated with the battles of Antietam and South Mountain and the issuance of Lincoln's Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation.

The "Heart of the Civil War" was produced for the Tourism Council of Frederick County with support from the National Scenic Byways Program and the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority. Maryland's Heart of the Civil War Heritage Area includes portions of Carroll, Frederick, and Washington counties and is part of the Journey Through Hallowed Ground National Scenic Byway and National Heritage Area. This event will also serve as the Heart of the Civil War Heritage Area's annual meeting.
