"Managing Kindly"
When you think about managers, what words immediately come to mind? Perhaps, "Strict," "Tough," "Mean," or even "Unfair"? Is it possible for kindness and managing to be used together effectively?
Chelly Townsend is the first female Executive Director of the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC), manages an annual budget of more than $10 million and employs 500 people, including 90 on a full-time basis. This month, Chelly will share how she and her team use a sustainable model to evoke kindness, gratitude, and positivity to make the DECC a great place to work.
Chelly Townsend is the Executive Director of the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC) where she has worked since 1990. She grew up in a big family in Duluth, graduated from UMD and began her professional career with the Grandma’s Corporation shortly after graduating from UMD. She has remained in the hospitality industry since. Chelly currently serves on the board of Visit Duluth, the advisory committee for the Twin Ports Interchange Project, and is a member of the Canal Park Business Association and the Duluth Attractions Council. She and her husband John Schmidt live in Duluth and have 3 adult daughters. On January 9, 2019, the price increases to $20 and is based on available space. Online registration closes on at noon on Thursday, January 10, 2019. We encourage you to register early to secure your spot.

our attendance numbers ahead of time. Therefore, event fees are non-refundable, and cannot be transferred to another event/date. However, you may transfer your registration to another person to attend in your place.

Empowered Women’s Network is a non-profit organization that hosts monthly lunches September-May for women to connect with each other. Our mission is to connect & empower women in life & business through a positive, informal, and encouraging networking group.
MEETINGS: Meetings are held on the second Friday of each month September through May (unless otherwise specified), with no meetings during the months of June, July, and August. The cost is $15 per lunch/meeting for advance registration through our online registration system.
MEMBERSHIP: Membership is $20 per year, available as you register online or during any meeting.
Members of EWN will be featured on our group facebook page. We want to emphasize that membership is important to keep us sustainable and help us grow as an organization. You do not need to be a member to attend meetings.
