Please join us for our 2019 Challenging Racism Annual Reception at the Mexican Cultural Institute in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Washington, DC. Coming together in community, we will share our stories, celebrate our accomplishments, and reflect on our year ahead!
We are grateful to the Mexican Cultural Institute for permitting us use of this original and beautiful space for the evening. We are excited to welcome you for an evening of traditional Mexican cuisine by amazing Chef Lupina Angeles, drinks, and Mexican music to enjoy - all amid festive decorations in recognition of the Day of the Dead.
The event will take place from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a brief formal program and video starting at 8:00 PM.

Friend - Annual Reception Ticket $60
Entitles the purchaser to:
- Entry for one (1) individual to the annual reception
Host Committee Member Sponsorship Level $300
- Entry for two (2) individuals to the annual reception
- Recognition on the 2019 annual reception invitation
- Recognition in "Our Challenging Racism Story" video to be shared during the short formal program at the annual reception
Facilitator Sponsorship Level $600
- Entry for two (2) individuals to the "behind the scenes tour" of the mansion by a member of the Foreign Service at the Mexican Cultural Institute (immediately prior to the annual reception, details to be provided upon registration)
- Recognition on signage at the annual reception check-in table
Champion Sponsorship Level $800
Entitles the purchaser to:
- Entry for four (4) individuals to the annaul reception
- Recognition on the 2019 annual reception invitation
- Recognition in "Our Challenging Racism Story" video to be shared during the short formal program at the annual reception
- Entry for four (4) individuals to the "behind the scenes tour" of the mansion by a member of the Foreign Service at the Mexican Cultural Institute (immediately prior to the annual reception, details to be provided upon registration)

Challenger Sponsorship Level $2400
- One (1) 2½ hour session, Challenging Racism: Getting Started, led by two trained facilitators to introduce up to 25 members of your team or community to racial literacy, individual vs. systemic racism, and the impacts of redlining to understand segregation and racial inequities. Help build a baseline understanding of racism today and a shared urgency to talk about race. This Getting Started session can be provided to invited participants or offered as a public event.
Ambassador Sponsorship Level $4800
Entitles the purchaser to all of the benefits of the Champion Sponsorship Level plus:
- Be the named sponsor of three (3) monthly recurring sessions of Challenging Racism: Getting Started to the public in 2019-2020. Each 2 ½ hour session is led by two trained facilitators to introduce up to 25 community members to racial literacy, individual vs. systemic racism, and the impacts of redlining to understand segregation and racial inequities. A great way to demonstrate commitment to Diversity & Inclusion and Community values.

About Challenging Racism
Since 2004, Challenging Racism has been holding a series of 2.5 hour planned facilitated conversations, every other week for 5 months, to teach people in Arlington, Virginia about issues surrounding race, and ways to challenge racism. Challenging Racism: Learning How began as a parallel experience to the Arlington Public Schools initiative to inform faculty and staff about race and equity in its effort to close the Achievement Gap between white and non-white students. It has grown to provide information to school and work groups, community organizations, and others whose members can benefit from a deeper and broader understanding of racism and its effect on our society.
Through reading, stories, activities and facilitated conversations, participants learn to engage thoughtfully and effectively in cross-cultural situations. We support development of a basic understanding of racism, white privilege, the roots of racism and its more recent modern manifestations in our society. The skills developed here can be applied to many different topics and situations.
Our goal is simple: To give you the tools to have conversations about racism and bias in your community, in order to disrupt racism wherever you find it.
