Reaching out to our Communities:
We are excitedly anticipating the 2018 SME Golf Extravaganza and look forward to seeing you at the tournament.  The funds raised from this tournament will help further educate students, communities and elected officials about the roles of the aggregates and phosphate industries.  We are working hard to make this happen.  Below are some of the contributions made by SME and MEC in the past year.

• Awarded eight mini-grants to K-12 schools in our mining area to support science education projects totaling more than $5,500 collectively.
• 26 awards were presented to Junior and Senior High Science Fair participants in Hardee, Hillsborough, DeSoto and Polk Counties with an additional 3 awards presented to top mining-related projects.
• 6 special awards presented at the Florida State Science Fair.
  
• Seven $1,000 academic scholarships were awarded to college-bound graduates of Desoto and Polk Counties pursuing a degree in engineering, science or mathematics.
• Supplied awards, backboards, display materials, mentoring and judges to Hardee, Hillsborough, Polk and Desoto County Junior and Senior High School Science Fair participants.
• Printed and distributed to elementary students over 5,000 copies of the pro-mining message workbook "Mining Rocks".
• Awarded one $3,000 David Gossett Memorial Scholarship to a top mining co-op student working at a Florida mine.
