NVC Fundamentals

8 Week Series

The possibility of living nonviolently, of connecting compassionately with ourselves and others, exists in every moment. How can we bring this possibility into practice?

I invite you to an experiential learning journey through the essential elements of Nonviolent Communication (NVC), to strengthen the roots and foundations of our practice. In our eight weeks together, we will dive deeply into the fundamentals of NVC, with a parallel focus on process, purpose, and practice. I hope to co-create with you a meaningful and clarifying experience that offers a blend of experiential self-exploration, learning and sharing in a safe community learning space, and creativity and fun!

About Manasi
Manasi Saxena (CNVC Certified Trainer; Founder, enCOMPASSion) is a learning facilitator whose focus lies around the intersection of spiritual/personal growth and social change/community development. More recently, she has been engaged with emergency relief services after the violence in Northeast Delhi and during the Covid-19 lockdown in India. Her core focus now is to work closely with communities at the grassroots, with a vision of shifting from sustenance-survival to a paradigm of sustainability, collaboration, and resilience through community-driven social change.

Key Takeaways
You can hope to leave with:
An experiential understanding of Nonviolent Communication, its purpose, intention, and practice
Clarity and practice in the fundamental capacities of NVC: Observations, Feelings, Needs, and Requests
Self-empathy: How to come home to a point of balance and centering within myself, to respond, rather than react?
Empathy: How to listen empathically to another person without telling them what to do (and why would I do that in the first place!)?
Expression: How to speak my truth while still holding deep care and respect for the other?
And, how to dance in the flow of connection between empathy and honesty, between you and me!

We are offering a sliding scale for this series.
$180 - The requested contribtion. This is what we would love to receive for this training from people living in the US/Global North.

$135 - The middle requested contribution is for those who are able to meet their basic needs but have little-to-no expendable income. Paying for this training may qualify as a stretch, not a hardship.

$90 - The lowest request contribution is for those who struggle to meet basic needs and paying for this class would be a hardship, particularly if you are from the Global South.

$240 - The Pay-It-Forward Contribution is for anyone who can offer more, above the “top rung” of the sliding scale. This extra money goes towards supporting scholarships for this class. It's an opportunity to take your class and support your fellow community members.

Please use this graphic if you need help to determine your scale.

Houston NVC supports all economic levels and does not turn away participants. We are committed to making our workshops accessible to all. To request a payment plan or financial support, email Manasi Saxena (encompassiondelhi@gmail.com) with some words about why you may need support, and what draws you to this program.

  • If you have never used Zoom as a meeting option, come a few minutes early to get settled with your technology.
  • It would be meaningful for you to create two hours of space where you can focus on your learning and practice for this session.
  • Each session can be supplemented with readings from Marshall Rosenberg's "Nonviolent Communication, A Language of Life". You could do these readings before or after the session, as works for best for your learning experience. The relevant chapters will be emailed to you the week before the session.
  • For session 1, the relevant pieces of the book are the introduction and Chapter 1: Giving from the Heart.
