Central Oregon Locavore presents:

Farming: A Family Affair

5th Annual Faces of Farming Gala, Silent Auction and Farm to Table Feast

“We have neglected the truth that a good farmer is a craftsman of the highest order, a kind of artist.”

The gala has been postponed and the new date will be announced shortly. Stay tuned!

Do you love fresh, nourishing food and the hard-working souls who make it possible?

We invite you to join us, Thursday, April 16th, at The Tetherow Resort Event Pavilion for an evening of artful and delicious surprise, designed to honor the hardy and dedicated people who grow and raise our food in Central Oregon.

This will be an evening of artful and delicious surprise, featuring a photographic narrative of our farmers and ranchers, a silent auction, dessert dash, cocktails, local wine and beer, and a farm to table sit-down dinner featuring the local bounty of our region. The menu will be designed and prepared by Chef Miguel of Tetherow Resort.

This year’s theme is Farming: A Family AffairEvery family has a story. Every farm has a story. And 86% of Oregon’s farms are owned by families, many of them multi-generational. The long hours required during planting and harvesting, vast array of skill sets required, and constant threat of unforeseen circumstances requires a constant presence, and many hands. We are going to explore the intimate nature of the family farm, whether it be a family of origin, choice, or cohort, and how families must work together to ensure survival, bounty, and prosperity.

“A good farmer is nothing more nor less than a handy man with a sense of humus.” – E.B. White

We believe in the power of the land and the people who cultivate it for our well-being. At Central Oregon Locavore, we know that the future of farming and local food will depend upon the support and encouragement that we provide to local farmers and ranchers. Faces of Farming serves to connect those passionate about our sustainability, cultivates strong relationships and celebrates the potential in all of us.

“A farm is a manipulative creature. There is no such thing as finished. Work comes in a stream and has no end. There are only the things that must be done now and things that can be done later. The threat the farm has got on you, the one that keeps you running from can until can't, is this: do it now or some living thing will wilt or suffer or die. Its blackmail, really.”  Kristin KimballThe Dirty Life: On Farming, Food, and Love
