RC Consult Group - May 14, 2019

ADVANCED! Transference & Countertransference Dynamics with Trauma Survivor Clients - Part 2

We got such great feedback on last year’s advanced Trainer Consult group on this topic and nearly everyone said they wished it was longer and wanted more.…well, we heard you!

This year we will do a 2.0 version of the topic, starting where we left off last year, exploring Transference and Countertransference (T/CT) from more angles.  You don’t have to have attended last year, but if you did, there will be plenty of new stuff.

ADVANCED topics for RC Trainer Consult Groups are designed to meet the needs of longtime Trainers with many years of clinical experience. Of course, any RC Trainer can attend, but this Trainer Consult Group will be pitched at a higher level.

Transference and Countertransference (T/CT) dynamics are happening moment-to-moment, hour-to-hour, and day-to-day in our programs. Parallel to our strong responses to clients, we can also have strong reactions to supervisees, our peers, and out bosses. The more we have a framework for understanding these reactions and the more self-aware we are, the more likely we are to use our reactions in a helpful way to build RICH relationships.

This ADVANCED Consult group will again unpack this complicated topic. Through mini-lectures and participatory activities, it will:

  • Further explore T/CT themes in relationships with survivors
  • Model supervision and case consultation exploring T/CT themes
  • Consider how T/CT dynamics emerge with treaters who are themselves trauma survivors
  • Explore ways to notice, understand, and use our strong reactions so supervisees, peers, and bosses
  • Discuss how to teach CT effectively in RC Trainings
