How to Stay RICH While Having

Difficult Conversations

Training Description

This RC Trainer Consult group will address the challenges of staying RICH when having difficult conversations during supervision or with colleagues in the workplace.  Conflict can affect our ability to communicate. Effective communication is key to staying RICH and arriving at mutually agreeable solutions. Participants in this webinar will:

Learn:

  • The neurobiology behind our reactions to conflict
  • To foster constructive responses to conflict
  • Techniques for keeping difficult conversations positive and RICH

 Recognize:

  • Personal hot buttons that contribute to conflict
  • How the use of validation and empathy are key to advancing difficult conversations
  • Your personal conflict style as well as other styles to pull from when necessary

 Become:

  • Conflict-competent with staff, colleagues, supervisors and allied professionals
  • Skilled at diffusing difficult situations
  • More comfortable with confronting conflict

Presenter


Mary Jo Harwood, LSW, DNCCM, is a Program Coordinator for the Traumatic Stress Institute of Klingberg Family Centers. A significant part of her 30 years as a licensed social worker has been spent supporting the recovery of individuals and communities post-traumatic incidents. She has provided trauma-informed leadership to victim service organizations, mental health providers, and served in the capacity of a therapist, EMDR practitioner, crisis responder, and trainer. Mary Jo directed the Dialogue and Resolution Center, a division of the Center for Victims in Pittsburgh, PA providing training and coaching that addressed building conflict-competent teams in organizations. She is a member of Mediators Beyond Borders International and has worked in Liberia and South Sudan and consulted with teams in Northern Nigeria and Kenya to address the intersection of trauma and peace-building through the application of conflict and trauma-sensitive programming.  

Training Cost

Per-person Fee: $70

Per-Person Fee + Continuing Education Units: $80

Cancellation Policy

Payment is expected at the time of registration. We will refund the registration fee, minus a $30 processing fee, for cancellations up to two weeks prior to the training. No refunds will be made for cancellations inside two weeks.

Continuing Education Credits

Satisfactory Completion. Participants must have paid the continuing education fee, signed in, attended the entire seminar, completed an evaluation, and signed out in order to receive a certificate. Failure to sign in or out will result in forfeiture of credit for the entire course. No exceptions will be made. Partial credit is not available.

Psychologists. R. Cassidy Seminars is approved by the American Psychological Association (APA) to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. R. Cassidy Seminars maintains responsibility for this program and its content. 

Social Workers. R. Cassidy Seminars, ACE Provider #1082 is an approved provider for social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) www.aswb.org through the Approved Continuing Education (ACE) Program. R. Cassidy Seminars maintains responsibility for this program. Approval Period: April 15, 2015- April 15, 2018. Social workers should contact their regulartory board to determine course approval. Social workers will receive continuing education clinical social work clock hours for participating in this course.

CA The Board of Behavioral Sciences has deferred the CE course approvals to APA and ASWB for its licenses. See those approvals under Psychologists and Social Workers. 

NY R. Cassidy Seminars is recognized by the New York State Education Department's State Board for Social Work as an approved provider (#0006) of continuing education for licensed social workers.

Counselors/ Marriage and Family Therapist. 

CA The Board of Behavioral Sciences has deferred CE course approvals to APA and ASWB for its licenses. See those approvals under Psychologists and Social Workers. 

Other States If your state is not specifically listed, nearly all Counselor and MFT boards accept either APA or ASWB approval, or are reciprocal with other state licensing board approvals such as those listed below. Check with your board to be sure. The Ohio Board includes Counselors.
