RC Consult Group - June 9, 2020

Behavior Management Consultation

Again this year, RC Trainers will gather to look deeply at cases through a Risking Connection, trauma-informed lens.  Trainers will have the opportunity to use the brain trust of their fellow RC Trainers peers to unpack, analyze, and design practical solutions for our most challenging cases…and we all know there are plenty of those.

As leaders, when implementing trauma-informed care in your agency, you may find that people often agree with what you are teaching in the abstract. However, our commitment to a trauma-informed approach can break down when a youth, or an adult, hurts another person. It is not uncommon to hear things like “you’re not going to let him get away with that, are you?” or “when she is upset she doesn’t care who she hurts” or “how is he going to learn if he doesn’t have consequences for his behavior?”

In this consultation group we encourage participants to share dilemmas about  behavior management.  We will apply our collective wisdom to addressing those dilemmas. What do we think is the ideal response? What response from us will have the most power to help the youth or adult change? What are the barriers to employing that response? Participants should come prepared with your most troubling situations and we will use them to explore this important and difficult area of our work.
