Develop a further understanding of methamphetamine use & misuse, including the effects and signs of use, how sex plays an important role in crystal meth use, and identify evidence-based and practice-informed strategies to address methamphetamine use disorders. Presenters will share both clinical and lived experience.

Course Objectives:

1. Identify the effects of methamphetamine use.
2. Recognize the signs of methamphetamine use with gay men.
3. Understand the history of crystal meth within the gay community.
4. Recognize how sex plays an important role with crystal meth use.
5. Identify evidence-based and practice-informed strategies to address methamphetamine use disorders, engagement strategies, and treatment resources

MaryAnn O'Malloy, LPCC-S, LICDC-CS, Private Practice

MaryAnn “Marla” O’Malloy has worked in the field of behavioral health for over 30 years. Mx. O’Malloy prefers the pronouns they/them/theirs.They hold the licenses of LPCC-S and LICDC-CS in the state of Ohio. Having been in recovery for over 35 years, Marla is able to bring clinical and life experience together in treating addictions and trauma. Marla is a proud member of the Queer Community, and currently holds the title Mx. TriState Leather. It is with great pleasure that Marla joins the team in presenting a workshop encompassing so many of their passions.

Martin Warne, CPSS, Mental Health America of Northern Kentucky & Southwest Ohio

Martin Warne is a Certified Peer Support Specialist with a decade of successful experience in developing addiction recovery peer support programs for queer and trans people. Martin specializes in developing evidence based peer support groups and community based events for local LGBTQ+ people in addiction recovery. A strong believer in the power of positive thinking in the workplace, Martin regularly develops internal LGBTQ+ affirming incentives for employees and staff to learn more about LGBTQ+ addiction recovery. He also identifies as a gay man in recovery from crystal meth addiction with over 5 years in recovery. Before working at MHA, Martin served as the executive director at GLAST (Gays & Lesbians Acheiving Sobriety Together).
