8:30 a.m. Welcome

Introduction to NEED, Website, NEED Curriculum Matrix

9:00 a.m. The Science of Energy – Form and Transformations

Participants will learn about the forms of energy and energy transformations while using resources in the NEED Science of Energy kit.

10:30 a.m. Sources of Energy – Renewables and Nonrenewables – Energy in the Round and Energy Source Relay

NOON LUNCH

12:45 p.m. Carpool to Duke Solar Farm – 352 York Road, Walton

1:00 p.m. Tour Duke Solar Farm – Participants will tour the solar farm and learn more about field trip opportunities.

2:30 p.m. Introduction to NEED Solar Kits and Solar Mini-grants

Each school represented by two or more teachers will select one of NEED’s Solar Energy kits for their school. Participants will be eligible to apply for a mini-grant (up to $200.00) for additional solar resources for the classroom.

2:45 p.m. Student Leadership and Recognition

Student Energy Teams and Solar Projects
NEED’s Youth Awards for Energy Achievement

3:00 p.m. NEED Resources and Paperwork!

Complete post-assessment, evaluations and order forms for NEED materials. Distribution of substitute reimbursement forms.
