STEM Leadership Academy Career Chat with Dr. Rita Baranwal 

Due to high interest, the Exelon STEM Academy is excited to welcome all high school and college students to this event - space permitting.

Join the STEM Leadership Academy for a Career Chat with Dr. Rita Baranwal, a top woman in nuclear who has transformed the state of US nuclear energy policy!

Dr. Baranwal the Chief Nuclear Officer and VP of Nuclear at Electric Power Research Institute. She is the former Assistant Secretary for the Office of Nuclear Energy. Students will get to ask questions about Dr. Baranwal's education, career, being a woman in STEM, and more!

As former Assistant Secretary for the Office of Nuclear Energy in the U.S. Department of Energy, Dr. Baranwal led the office’s efforts to promote research and development (R&D) on existing and advanced nuclear technologies that sustain the existing U.S. fleet of nuclear reactors, enable the deployment of advanced nuclear energy systems, and enhance the U.S.A.'s global commercial nuclear energy competitiveness.

Dr. Baranwal is a Fellow of the American Nuclear Society. She has a bachelor’s degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in materials science and engineering and a master’s degree and Ph.D. in the same discipline from the University of Michigan. You can read more about Dr. Baranwal here!

Participants must be young women in 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade or a STEM Academy alumnae.
Participants must have computer and internet access and be interested in fully participating in the Zoom session by sharing video.
Participants must be located in one of the following areas:
  • ComEd service territory of Illinois (Chicago and most of northern Illinois)
  • PECO service territory of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia and its PA suburbs)
  • Pepco service territory of DC and Maryland (DC, Prince George's County, Montgomery County)
  • BGE service territory of Maryland (Baltimore City, Ann Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford and Howard Counties)
