2017 - ASID NYU/CE PROFESSIONAL DESIGN COMPETITION

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS AND CRITERIA

1. CATEGORIES

  • Commercial Design
  • Residential Design
  • Outside-the-Box/Specialty Projects (Out-of-the-ordinary project, such as salon, bowling alley, kiosk, trade show booth, etc…)

2. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Entries are restricted to current ASID Professional, Allied, and Associate Members of the ASID NYU/CE Chapter in good standing. Projects must have been completed between June 1, 2015 and June 1, 2017. You may enter as many projects as you wish in either category. Each project must be entered separately. Entry fees are charged per project submission.

3. FORMAT

All presentation boards are to be formatted to a size of 11” x 17”. Project boards may be oriented either portrait or landscape, however orientation must be consistent for entire project. Please keep in mind that candidate entries may be printed for display and/or promotional purposes. A maximum of three (3) boards may be submitted for each project. Project boards must include: Plans/drawings, photographs of completed space (before photos can be included but are not required), and a project overview, less than 250 words, typed in a 10 point easy-to-read font. If available, 3D images should be included with an informative description. All photographic images used on boards must be 300 dpi. A maximum of six photographic images may be included for the entire project presentation.

4. FEE

Entry fee is $75.00 for the first entry and $40.00 for additional entries. (Entries must be made separately) After completion of the Entry Form, payment must be made prior to submission of presentation boards. Entries will be disqualified without completed entry form and payment.

5. SUBMISSION

Please submit a maximum of three (3) 11” x 17” presentation boards (saved at 300 dpi) in PDF format in either landscape or portrait orientation. After completion of the Entry Form and payment you will receive an email that includes a Dropbox link to upload your presentation boards. A confirmation email will be sent upon receipt. 6. DEADLINE

ASID NYU/CE Chapter must receive completed entries by 11:55pm on Saturday, August 26th. (EXTENDED!)

7. AWARDS

Winners will be notified by the ASID NYU/CE Chapter Board no later than Tuesday September 5th.  All entries will be recognized by our Chapter via social media, print newsletter, or other means. It is not mandatory, but strongly advised, that winning entries be represented by a member of the design team at the awards reception on Saturday, September 23rd in Ithaca, NY.

8. JUDGING & RESULTS

  • Any entry that does not meet all competition rules and requirements will be automatically disqualified.
  • There will be no refund for entrants who pay the entry fee, but do not submit their project by the deadline.

9. ENTRY EVALUATION

  • Design Objectives 25 points: Clarity of project. Addresses project requirements and scope in concept statement.
  • Aesthetics 25 points: Overall visual success of the project using the principles and elements of design.
  • Functionality 25 points: Effective and appropriate use of materials, finishes, furnishings, lighting, space planning and detailing.
  • Design Creativity 25 points: Originality and creativity in problem solving, material use and attention to detail.
  • Entries are evaluated individually and awarded points. Judges’ scores for each entry are totaled out of the four (4) 25-point sections listed above. Totals from each judge are then averaged to determine the winner.
  • The judges reserve the right not to issue any award for any category where the entry does not exemplify design excellence in accordance with judging criteria. Judges also reserve the right to combine categories with less than three (3) entries as they see fit.
