"A Day of Continuing Education"

Join us for a day of special continuing education seminars with Brett Howard and David Freeman at our U.S.P.A.® Instructor Certification Center, Pilates Mind and Body.

9am-11:30am: Putting Your Best Foot Forward
with Brett Howard
The foot is a complex structure, which serves as a stable weight support, adapts to uneven surfaces and spring as well as propels in actions like walking, running and jumping. The foot is the foundation to the body, when there is poor function of the foot it can affect the rest of the body. This seminar explores the anatomy and biomechanics of the foot, addresses common injuries and abnormalities of the foot and exemplifies how the implementation of the Pilates method of body conditioning can assist in both injury prevention and rehabilitation of common foot abnormalities, for a healthy efficient foot.

12:30pm-2:30pm: Archival Pilates
with Brett Howard
The Joseph H. Pilates Archival Seminars include unseen film footage of the Master himself Teaching.  These seminars are based upon the original work of Joseph Pilates and contain hundreds of exercises, many which have not been seen, or explored by the Pilates community. The foundation and benefits of each exercise and apparatus is explored including integration into existing repertoire, necessary modifications, and adaptations. This will be an interactive experience and process where attendees will participate, and learn the exercise process from history of evolution, purpose, to demonstration, and precision via a highly refined approach to execution.  The Archival Seminars are presented through the United States Pilates Association and are only offered in the U.S.A.

3pm-5pm: It's a Matter of "Principles"
with David Freeman
As Instructors, it is imperative that we teach to the 6 Principles of Pilates. But how often do we plan a program for our clients with these 6 principles in mind? Are we going to work on Flow and Precision today? Or will it be Breathing and Concentration. Certainly, we cannot expect a beginner or for that matter an intermediate to grasp all 6 Principles at once. Which of the principles should we emphasize and when? Are there certain exercises that warrant more Flow than Precision? More Concentration than Breathing? Which Principles will accomplish the primary goal of the exercise?

This Seminar examines the Basic, Intermediate and Advances Systems with an eye towards the 6 Principles and their application. The Seminar will be interactive with the seminar participants interacting with the Seminar Provider.
