Speaker Bios
Brian Swett, LEED AP, Chief of Environment and Energy, City of Boston
Recently appointed as Boston's new Chief, Brian's prior work was as Project Manager at Boston Properties. Recent development projects in Boston that Brian has been involved in include Atlantic Wharf, a LEED-Platinum Certified 31-story mixed-use project on Boston’s waterfront and Boston’s first green skyscraper. He also advises and oversees LEED and sustainability related initiatives throughout the Boston region and across the company. Prior to joining Boston Properties, Swett worked for an environmental justice non-profit, two socially responsible investment firms, U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer, and several offices in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. During his time at EPA’s National Center for Environmental Innovation, Swett created and led a program on learning from international best practices in environmental policy for domestic adaptation and application. Areas of focus included green building, integrated permitting, smart growth, and urban planning.
Mary Ostafi, AIA, LEED AP, Sustainability Consultant, HOK
The workshop will be facilitated by Mary Ostafi who manages the firm wide Occupant Engagement ProgramTM, a methodology for engaging occupants, driving green practices, and inspiring sustainable behavior among building stakeholders through strategic engagement, education, and outreach campaigns and events. Prior clients include Cadillac Fairview and the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce.
Cindy Hoots, Account Director, Corporate Responsibility, Cone Communications
With more than 10 years of experience in corporate social responsibility and corporate communications, Cindy began her work at Cone as a freelance consultant supporting sustainability reporting and strategic communications on accounts such as Avon, L’Oréal and Wells Fargo.
Cindy specializes in whole systems thinking and integrating CSR engagement strategies throughout an organization. She helps clients leverage strategic CSR as a competitive advantage and works with clients to identify emerging issues and bring disparate stakeholders together to find a common solution.
Cindy will be presenting on the I've Got the Power campaign that they helped plan for L'Oreal.
Agenda
Attendees will take away the community based social marketing framework in relation to energy engagement, case studies, a campaign to implement immediately including communications materials, and lastly, the opportunity to network and share best practices with Boston’s sustainability professionals.
