"Hearts on Fire: Answering the Call to Serve as a Catholic School Educator"

presented by Melodie Wyttenbach, Ph.D.
Director, Roche Center for Catholic Education, Boston College


Melodie Wyttenbach, Ph.D., serves as the Executive Director for the Roche Center for Catholic Education and is a faculty member for the Lynch School of Education and Human Development. Melodie is committed to leading the Roche Center forward as it strengthens Catholic Education by developing transformational leaders, expanding innovative, and systemically collaborates to enhance the lives of those served by Catholic education. Melodie’s professional leadership experiences in the Catholic sector include serving as an Assistant Professor and Academic Director of the Mary Ann Remick Leadership Program for the Alliance for Catholic Education at the University of Notre Dame. Prior to her time at Notre Dame, Melodie served as President of Nativity Jesuit Academy, a high-performing urban Catholic school serving the Latino community in a school choice environment. At the national level, Melodie also worked as Director of Mission Effectiveness for the NativityMiguel Network of Schools, in Washington, DC. Melodie presents nationally on topics such as Catholic School Governance and Effective Board Management, Strategic Planning, Development and Enrollment Management Strategies, and Making Schools Culturally Competent for New and Existing Latino Families.

Workshop 2 - Tuesday, December 3, 2019 - 4:00-7:00 p.m.

"Creating Cultural Responsive Environments"

presented by Sr. Barbara Gutierrez, SNDdeN
Director of Enrollment Management of the Catholic Schools Office in the Archdiocese of Boston 

 

Sr. Barbara Gutierrez, SNDdeN, was born and raised in Mexico City. Her work in business consulting and human resources with international corporations brought her to the United States. She entered the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in 2006. As a religious sister, she has used her experience working with people from different backgrounds in a variety of settings to serve Hispanic communities in Ohio, Florida, and Massachusetts. She worked as Director of Admissions at Notre Dame Cristo Rey HS, and as a consultant to NCEA. She currently serves as Director of Enrollment Management of the Catholic Schools Office in the Archdiocese of Boston. 

 

Workshop 3 - Thursday, March 19, 2020 - 4:00-7:00 p.m.

“Planting and Pruning the Zaccheus Tree: Inclusive Classroom Practice” 

presented by Doreen Engel
Adjunct Professor and Professional Development Consultant with The Andrew M. Greeley Center at Loyola University Chicago

 

Doreen Engel has worked in Catholic schools for more than 30 years. She has taught students in every grade from PreK – graduate school and in every category of disability identified under IDEA 2004. As Director for the Special Education for the Archdiocese of Washington, she worked cooperatively with principals to expand the inclusion of children with disabilities. A program that she designed for St. John’s College High School in Washington, DC over 20 years ago has been replicated at other Catholic schools, allowing students with a wide range of disabilities to succeed in accessing a college preparatory curriculum. She has also served as principal for three different Catholic schools. She is currently an Adjunct Professor and Professional Development Consultant with The Andrew M. Greeley Center at Loyola University Chicago. She is a former board member of the National Catholic Partnership on Disability (NCPD) and current member of the Exceptional Learner Committee for the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA). Her book, Be Open! A Prayerful Guide to Inclusion in Catholic Schools was published in spring 2019.
