Benefit Piano Recital

Friday, May 18

7:00 p.m.

Pianist, Ileana Shaner, will perform a recital to benefit St. James Missions and Outreach on Friday, May 18, at 7:00 p.m. in the St. James sanctuary. Suggested donation for adults is $20. Enjoy light hors d'oeuvres and fellowship in the lobby after the performance.

The program will open with Beethoven Sonata Op. 109 in E major, the first of his last three sonatas for piano, composed when Beethoven was completely deaf. Debussy's Estampes  will follow, consisting of three contrasting movements that evoke the exotic sounds of East Asia, an evening in the Spanish city of Granada, and stormy gardens derived from two French folk tunes. Chopin's lilting and lyrical  Ballade No. 3 in A flat major and Gershwin's jazzy Three Preludes for Piano will follow.  The program will close with four pieces by Cuban composer, Ernesto Lecuona, concluding with his most widely known piece, Malagueña.
